Club Rules & Information

(Revised 01/01/08)

ORGANIZATION: The Club was organized and chartered in 1970. It is organized as a regular corporation. Its annual meeting is the 2nd Wednesday of March each year, at which time the officers and directors are elected by the Club members. Its officers consist of a President, Vice-president, Secretary and Treasurer. There are four Directors, who serve on two-year terms. Two directors are elected each alternate year. Officers serve on a one-year basis. Monthly board meetings are held the 2nd Wednesday of each month. The Club operates on a fiscal year, from April 1 through March 31.

The Club owns approximately 26 acres of land, which borders Hook Lake on the East, and is located in the Town of Dunn Township. The Club operates under a "Conditional Use Permit" issued by Dane County. The Conditional Use Permit restricts the club's activities. Compliance with these restrictions is of utmost importance in able for the Club's continued existence.

MEMBERSHIP: Memberships are on a calendar year basis (January through December), and membership fees are due on January 1 of each year. Memberships are classified as Single, Family or Junior. In addition to the applicable annual fee, each member has the option to work a minimum of 10 hours per calendar year in Club related activities, such as building repairs, archery tournaments, sporting clay events, game-feed, etc., etc. Each hour worked (up to 10 hours) earns a credit toward their next year's membership fee.

Club membership fees are: Single $85; Family $100 and Junior $10. Each member also has the option to work a minimum of 10 hours per calendar year in Club related activities or projects. Work-hour-credits, earned during current membership year, will earn a credit of $5.00 per hour, up to 10 hours, toward their next year membership fee, not to exceed $50 per single or family membership. (No credit is applicable to the junior membership, although they are invited to assist in appropriate Club work activities).

Work log sheets are located in the clubhouse building for logging in your work hours. It is the responsibility of each member to log his or her individual work hours! The Club Secretary and Treasurer are responsible for recording your work credits, but work-hours must be logged in if they are to be counted. Each member shall receive a billing in December stating the membership fee due, less credit for hours worked.

Credits toward membership fees are given for hours worked only, and not for donations, special prices, etc.

MEMBERSHIP DEFINITION: Single membership is for one person beyond high-school age. A family membership is for a person (over high school age), plus his/her spouse, plus any children still in elementary, or high school. A junior membership is for one person who is still in elementary or high school. Memberships are for the calendar year, and are due on January 1st of each year.

TRAP & SKEET SHOOTING: Our Club's Conditional Use Permit, issued by Dane County, restricts our trap & skeet shooting hours to the following: Monday, Tuesday & Thursday evenings from 6:00 PM to 9:30 PM. Trap & skeet shooting is also allowed 2 designated Saturdays per month from 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM. These dates are chosen by the club each year. ALL OTHER TIMES ARE PROHIBITED, except that the Club may have a maximum of four (one-day) special shooting events per year. A list of shotgun shooting dates must be sent to the Town of Dunn and their residents after March first of the current year. Hunter Safety courses are not restricted. Shooting on a federal holiday is prohibited. PLEASE NOTE: SHOOTING DURING UNAUTHORIZED TIMES CAN GREATLY JEOPADIZE THE CLUB’S RELATIONSHIP WITH OUR NEIGHBORS, AND OUR EXISTENCE!!

Trap & skeet leagues generally begin the first part of May. Practice is generally during April. Trap leagues shoot on Monday & Tuesday evenings and skeet shoots on Thursday evening. A shooting fee is charged for practice per 25-bird game. FEES FOR PRACTICE SHOOTING ARE PAYABLE PRIOR TO SHOOTING. League fees are due at the beginning of the league period, as are membership feeds if not already paid. Open shooting is allowed during the regular shooting hours stated above, but league shooters take priority.

There is to be NO drinking of alcoholic beverages, by trap or skeet shooters, before or during shooting. No one under the age of 21 is allowed to consume alcoholic beverages on the premises, at any time!

The Club sponsors Sporting Clay Tournaments, which are open to the public, during the summer.

No one under the age of 12 is allowed to shoot, unless the person has passed a Hunter Safety Course.

When NOT on the firing line all guns must be unloaded and the chamber open. When ON the firing line, there is to be NO live shell in the gun chamber until it is your turn to shoot; preferably the chamber should also remain open until it is your turn to shoot. There is to be NO shot larger than size 7 1/2 nor magnum loads, and speed cannot exceed 1300 ft/second.

Please pick up your shotgun shell casings, and live ammo, as they are potential for damage to mowing equipment and possible personal injury.

ARCHERY: The Club maintains an indoor archery range, an outdoor practice range, an outdoor 3-D target range, and a broad-head practice pit.

A winter indoor round target league is held, which begins as soon as possible after January 1st. It currently runs for 12 weeks, and is open to men, women and juniors. League nights are usually on Wednesday & Thursday evenings, although shooting at other times is also allowed. Persons of all skill levels are welcome. There is a league fee charged.

A summer outdoor 3-D league is also held, if participation warrants it. This usually takes place right after the 4th of July, and runs for 6-8 weeks. It provides an excellent opportunity to sharpen shooting skills just prior to bow hunting season. This league is held on Wednesday evening, so as not to interfere with trap & skeet shooting.

The Club holds three to five outdoor Archery 3-D Tournaments annually. They are generally held on the 2nd weekend of March, May, July, August & September. They are open to the public. Membership participation is encouraged, both in the shooting and in helping run the tournaments. The 3-D tournaments are a major fund raiser event for the Club, and a great opportunity to earn work credits.

Youth archery programs are held on Saturday mornings starting after the first of the year. This is for young beginner archers of all ages. They generally run for a six to ten week period. The Club also has various other archery activities and events depending upon member participation, desire and involvement. Archery activities and fees are reviewed and possibly adjusted on an annual basis.

Club members are allowed to practice archery with the three outdoor targets at any time appropriate. Use of the 3-D targets is restricted to the 3-D tournaments and 3-D league. The indoor archery range is available for Club members whenever the club is open. There is also a practice fee charged per half-hour of shooting. FEES FOR PRACTICE SHOOTING ARE PAYABLE PRIOR TO SHOOTING. A box is provided in the archery building for paying the appropriate fee.

No broadheads are allowed except when using the broadhead pit. There is to be NO archery outdoor shooting during any time that people are shooting trap or skeet.

STEAK FEED: The Club has held an annual Wild Game Feed with Raffles for many years but due to concerns with CWD in the deer herd, this has been replaced with a steak feed. It is an annual event, to be held about the 3rd week of August. It is open to the public, and is one of the Club’s main fund raiser events. A lot of help from Club members is required before, during, and after the event. Membership participation is encouraged. It is an excellent opportunity to earn work-credits toward your membership.

BUILDINGS & FACILITIES: The Club is basically for the benefit & pleasure of its members. The main clubhouse was built in 1970; the archery building in 1987, and the metal storage shed in 1995. All members are expected to treat the buildings, equipment, grounds and facilities with respect, and care for them as one would expect to care for their own property. Cutting down of trees is not allowed.

All beverage & food items are sold on the 'honor system'. You are expected to pay for what you use or consume. The future of our club depends upon your honesty. There is no 'free' beer, pop, or etc. while working on a Club project or activity. YOU MUST BE 21 YEARS OF AGE TO PURCHASE OR CONSUME ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES. We are not allowed to sell alcoholic beverages to non-members, except during special events, at which time we must have a short-term beverage license.

You are expected to 'clean up after yourself'. Put trash & cans, etc. in the appropriate places. There is to be no personal use of the garbage Dumpster. Equipment used for special events is not to be left out.

The last person to leave is responsible to assure that all windows are closed, thermostats are adjusted, heat is appropriately adjusted or shut off, lights are shut off, all doors are locked, place is reasonably cleaned up, and the outbuildings and gate is locked.

Women and children are also members and guests of our club. Their rights must be respected also. Consequently, excessive use of profanity, and inappropriate actions, will not be tolerated.

Bow & arrow and shotguns only are allowed. There is to be no pistols or rifles brought on the premises.

Building & property security are a major issue. Building keys and the gate combination are to be used by active paid Club members only. Combination locks are used on the archery building and gate. All members are given the combination to the gate & archery building. The clubhouse back door, archery building back door and the door between the two buildings are selflocking doors, which can to be opened from the inside only.

Clubhouse building keys are issued, without deposit, to all officers & board members. Keys shall also be issued to persons running either trap or archery leagues, without deposit. Also, persons heading up a special event shall be issued a key on a short-term basis, during the event, without a deposit. All other members shall be eligible to receive a key upon paying a $40 deposit. The president & vice-president are responsible for issuing keys, collecting deposits and maintaining records & controls relating to the keys.

Hunter Safety, ATV driver safety & snowmobile safety training courses are co-sponsored by the Club. Contact names are located at the end of this bulletin.

NRA and the Wisconsin Bowhunters Association memberships are encouraged. Being a member of these groups helps protect your interests & does provide some additional protection against liability.

It is customary that the Club has workdays each Spring, or as needed. These events are necessary to get needed repairs and maintenance done. Your assistance is expected, and counts toward work credits.

Young children MUST be supervised at ALL times, as the trap and/or archery ranges are dangerous areas.

No person under the age of 18 is allowed use of Club grounds or facilities without adult supervision.

A 'Calendar of Events' is posted. All special events, such as archery tournaments, clay pigeon shoots, etc. are subject to Board approval and must be listed on the calendar.

The Club is formed for trap, skeet & archery functions ONLY. All other activities, including paint-ball wars, are unauthorized. Shooting with rifles and/or pistols is prohibited.

The club facilities are offered for use of other groups, subject to the prior approval of the Board of Directors.

The furniture in the main building is not to be removed from the building. Moving furniture damages it. There are tables and chairs, stored in the storage shed, which can be loaned out to members or organizations, on a short-term basis, with prior approval of a Club officer.

The clubhouse & archery buildings are heated in winter at 50 degrees to eliminate freezing. Air conditioning is available in the summer if needed. The thermometers can be adjusted upward as needed. They are designed to automatically reset to 50 degrees after each two-hour period.

Lawn mowing, building cleaning & snowplowing is done by hired contracts. The services of members are used if at all possible.
