August 29, 2015 – The Oregon Sportsman’s Club paid tribute to life member Stu Cameron, who passed away on May 4, 2015, by building a memorial in his honor. The club held a fundraiser and received generous donations from OSC members, local businesses, and the general public. Volunteer members constructed a stamped concrete patio with a 23′ flagpole. The memorial also includes an engraved and etched stone in Cameron’s honor, a bench, a gun rack, and an American flag that flew in service over Iraq. Stu’s family and hundreds of his friends were in attendance.

The dedication began with a ceremonial flag raising by the Oregon-Brooklyn VFW Post #10272. Stu’s friends then honored him with a 20 shotgun salute. John Krull, Becki Clark, and Steve D’Orazio spoke at the ceremony on the enormous impact Stu has made on the Oregon Sportsman’s Club over the years. The dedication ended with the playing of the song Angel Flying Too Close To The Ground by Willie Nelson.

Lyrics:

If you had not have fallen
Then I would not have found you
Angel flying too close to the ground
And I patched up your broken wing and hung around a while
Trying to keep your spirits up and your fever down

I knew someday that you would fly away
For love’s the greatest healer to be found
So leave me if you need to, I will still remember
Angel flying too close to the ground

Fly on, fly on past, the speed of sound
I’d rather see you up than see you down
So leave me if you need to, I will still remember
Angel flying too close to the ground.

So leave me if you need to, I will still remember
Angel flying too close to the ground.
